Connections of all Desert Encounter will set their sights on a third Pattison Canadian International success after the seven-year-old triumphed at Woodbine on Saturday.
Desert Encounter was a length winner of the Grade One heating this past year, had a length to spare this occasion over runner Alounak, also when beating fellow raider Thundering Blue.
The David Simcock-trained gelding has been registering a fourth win on the bounce after Group Three wins at Goodwood, Windsor and Newbury, along with his staff see no reason why Desert Encounter cannot bid to emulate Joshua Tree, who is the only triple winner of the 12-furlong race up to now.
Philip Robinson, racing manager for owner Abdulla Al Mansoori, advised www.woodbine.com:It would be lovely (to reunite in 2020). I dare say if hes still a happy horse as he is for certain, hell be back. He loves it here, why not?
The last three or four races hes just never stopped advancing, he is still improving. You expect it possibly from a four- or five-year-old however I think hes progressing a lot.
He is enjoying his racing – he is just in a very happy place (in ) this second.
The International was also contested by andrew Baldings Pivoine, but had to settle for fourth, whereas Joseph OBriens Red Tea was out of the frame in the EP Taylor Stakes.
